Modern Single Story House Design in Thailand - The Lake House by Openbox Company

This project is located on the edge of a small artificial lake within a National Park property adjacent to Kaoyai. The layout of the house as a result is looking to maximize the views, allowing natural ventilation and maintaining privacy. The edge of the land curves around the lake and has a gentle slope into the water, this landscape was chosen to articulate the best views from the main living room and dining room. The house is built on two independent main areas. Despite being separated, they are perceived as a single volume from the entrance. The access sequence begins at the main entrance, framed by the vegetation of the garden that provides a close up of the house, from this point, the house looks like a series of gray walls that stretch across its width. By the lake, distinguish the two separate volumes but connected by an external circulation.

In order not to obstruct views of the lake, the architects set out a large overhang along the east side that protects the window from rain and excessive sun. All these windows are slippery and can be left open even on a rainy day. Moisture is always a problem for forest areas and despite being a one-story house, each platform is raised off the ground to get away from moisture and the natural flow of rainwater. Moreover, being a weekend house, seeks to provide as low maintenance as possible and avoid excessive use of wood, teak wood was chosen to avoid the attack of termites.
