Architect’s Home Extension – The Lokyer Residence

This house extension is located in Brisbane, Australia and according to the owner and architects of this house, “The design looks to address two primary architectural issues, the first is about context and language, the second is about finding the “essence” of what is needed from an accommodation/ resource perspective in an effort to create a engaging but practical and economical outcome.” The design of the house is about the family, about the connection of the house to its landscape and the engagement to the sky. At the original building, the previous home did not adequately accommodate the cold winter and summer breezes, so you will see many openings to accommodate breezes including floor to ceiling glass walls and operable louvers. From the design perspective, the house looks interesting with its brown and white coloring, these colors are anywhere from its modern exterior to the interior design. The exterior looks blend with its greenery surrounding, the brown colors in various spectrums, the white color and the patio look so natural. For the interior, the interior as a whole looks warmth and inviting, the color combination of white and brown looks so modern and clean. The house, the “Lockyer Residence” was built by architects Shaun Lockyer Architects together with Arkhefield. The process in building this extension, according to the architects has afforded a low cost, simple to construct box but with relatively high degree of joy and craftsmanship. Thanks!
