The beautiful yet simple lines of the structure is a pragmatic and poetic answer to the thin budget, according to the architects Jean-Marie Finot and Denis Daversin. This cube-designed floating studio had been built in 4 years, initiated by a public commission in 2002 and finished in 2006. Basically, the barge is built on a rectangular boat platform (23mx5m), the surface area is 110sqm with 23sqm terrace and the façade is made of aluminum with two glass facades wrap the main room. As for creepers wanted to invade walls and roof, large flower pots are placed on the terrace as an entry barrier. The flower pots would be replaced by plants to further integrating the building within its landscape.
The interior design of this beautiful budget floating / boat house is sleek, and again, with simple lines but clean and modern with its strong contrasting colors of the white walls, soft color of the wood flooring, and some black accents like the fireplace. The style is similar in many rooms, like in the living room and in the kitchen with the wooden kitchen with black worktop. To capture much of the view, in the place that has inspired Renoir, in the “Déjeuner des canotiers” in 1881, this floating house also features a reeftop area.
This house is a studio for resident artist and authors invited by the Cneai national contemporary art center for publication, the floating house was conceived as a reproducible object, as it can be designed again with various lengths and rooms surfaces, but the width is fixed by that of the river locks – in case the House boat moves.
