Beautiful Small, 2510-sq ft Three Stories Modern Home Design with Rooftop Area in Seattle

With only 2000+ sq ft lot available to build a home for the young family owners with the access easement covering a portion of the southwest corner making the most of the yard are covered by the building. The architects of PB Elemental Architectures reversed the order of the home’s public and private rooms, the main living room is dedicated on the third level, in a west-facing deck volume with large glass windows and access to the roof terrace.

Inside, the beautiful bright and inviting interiors were created by the owners, they opted for the beautiful high-contrast for the furniture and the wall covering, creating interiors which exude a joy and vibrancy. I personally love the high-gloss surfaces of the furniture.

The wall just next to the stair to the main living room is made of glass, creating a seamless visual connection to the street. And from this space, the owners can access to the lovely wood-floored rooftop area with unobstructed views to the Ballard and the Puget Sound.

Project Name: Phinney Modern.   Location: Phinney Ridge neighborhood, Seattle, Washington. Architects: Pb Elemental Architecture. If you like this home and especially the roof terrace, we also have another beautiful small rooftop garden design with water features on a townhouse. Via

The main Design concept for this small, three stories cube house was created the opportunity to blend the ground to the building, the building to the people, and the people to other people by opening the architecture to the surrounding environment. This house, which is located in Nagoya, Japan has three function, as a flower shop, art gallery and a living quarter, the architect broke the unseen barrier and integrated the three spaces, which are normally separated. The living quarter was blended to the flower shop enriching times which are taken to arrange flowers. The flowers also become art by displaying them in the gallery. (click photos to enlarge)

The building was also created according to its surroundings, on the north side, there is an elementary school that provides unchanging environment for the future, especially for the schoolyard that provides views of its trees and flowers. On this side, the walkway that leads to the school is incorporated to the house via an open space that was created by utilizing the height of the first floor ceiling to frame the schoolyard views and the walkway. The architect also built a large opening only on the north side to reduce noise effect from the walkway and to provide soft natural lighting for the house.

Small Triangle Home Design: Rooftecture – Very Narrow House with Stunning Roof Design in Japan

Since the property price in Japan is prohibitively expensive, raising a structure on a small site can be a routine job for Japanese architects. The architects at Endo Shuhei Architects are some of them. But, they are not just built a beautiful house on a small site but also created a masterpiece within all site’s limitation. The triangle site is…small in all senses and also the slope location is difficult to access and to build a strong foundation to withstand any earthquake. The architects were re-shaping the slope site, strengthen the sides with stone wall, flatten some parts of the site for the built-up area, and built a stunning house on it. The most beautiful feature of this house is really visible, the roof. This roof is folded down to cover some part of the front, creating a unique shape that you certainly will not be able to see everyday. And to admire the views of the sea just in front of it, the roof has some windows accompanied by some windows on the façade. This is obvious that the architects have managed to use the space brilliantly, structurally and the aesthetically. This house is located in an old residential in Shioya Tarumi-ku, Kobe.

Modern Block / Row House Design with Spacious Interior in Small / Limited Space in Philadelphia

This relatively small house is a modern house design version of traditional row house neighborhood in Philadelphia. The design is an experiment in maximizing daylight and space without losing privacy. The daylight is maximize through skylight above the living room which feeds natural light to every level and glass block wall which floods natural light from the front façade. The space is maximized through efficient use of space and a full height living room which creates a strong sense of spaciousness. A great sample for those who want to create a spacious interior in a small / limited space with vertical arrangement. There’s also a rooftop terrace with its heightened parapet wall which creating an extra private space. The total area is 2,500-sq feet, a great job from architects of Moto Designshop.  And if you like this house you may also like this Rooftop area with compact pool on a town house

Very Small Weekend House Design by Ikuyo Nakama

This modern timber house, the "Kunigami House" is quiet small, since the function is just for a weekend house, the interior is clean, so clean it does have only a few plastic chairs. Other than that, the home decor may comes from the minimalist concrete stair, the wooden deck, the exposed wooden ceiling beams, or the black  wood flooring.  Well, they are not quiet decorations but since this wood house is very minimalist, those designs are exposed. (or they were intended to be) This house is made mostly of timber for claddings and concrete for most supporting structures. This house only has basic live supporting features like a very small kitchen and others like a small vase, a tea pot, a few light bulbs,  a wood bench, a fireplace and… I don’t know, I can’t see anything on the pictures, or, can you? Ikuyo Nakama.

Modern Holiday Cottage with Chalet Design Concept

This house is old enough now, but when it was built in 2003, this house may utilize some different approach that may be useful for today’s architecture. This house was built with considerations about the topography, character and quality of the location. The chalet design was the result of a concept of raising the house vertically in order to capture the majestic views via huge panorama windows while other windows were designed small enough. Dark timber cladding adds the impression. This house was also designed with single-room-house concept. There are no separate rooms but only vertical or horizontal zones that fulfill several functions. According to the architect: “The luxury of the house does not lie in expensive details and materials but in its location and its spaces.” Via

Compact and Modern House Design with Blue Façade

Located in Bernal Heights, San Francisco, this small modern house is stunning with its unusual blue façade. The bold exterior is also complemented with vibrant coloring for the interior design and house decoration. The Architects at Architect Craig Steely are putting anything colorful inside, from the yellow kitchen to the red rug and green painting. The third floor living room has elegant speckled flooring while in the kitchen, the same pattern is implemented to the wall. A texture with beautiful contrast with its wood flooring. Below the living room there are bedrooms, a studio and a gallery. This Fong/Rodriguez House is a beautiful example of a compact urban design.

Contemporary Compact House Design – Stacked House in Cambridge

This compact house design is quite interesting thank to unusual placement of the three 16 x 22 feet boxes. The boxes are stacked and rotated to shape this unusual profile. This house’s facade is finished in bright marine wood color and boasts the grain and its natural texture, giving a classic touch to the contemporary house design. These boxes seem that they are designed to provide privacy to the owners, there are only a few glass windows on it. The three levels of the house have their own distinct style. The first floor has marble for flooring while the other floors have wood, a lighter material for the same purpose. This house also has a beautiful stair and balustrades that lead the way up to the third floor. This XS House was designed by Chaewon Kim and Beat Schenk of design company UNI and is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
