This house is located outside Zurich in Eglisau, Switzerland and was designed for a young forward-thinking and discerning family of an urban planer, an industrial designer and their 14-month-old daughter. This prefab concrete house is built on a slope overlooking the river valley. The main entrance of the house is built at the street level while the main volume of the house is built below the street level. In order to minimize the street noise the architect Felix Oesch designed the rear façade with full concrete, backing out onto the road while the front façade in opposite was designed to be open to the views of the Rhine River. From the parking area, the main entrance is served by a stair that leads to the heavy wooden door, the door leads to the grand kitchen, dining and living area of wood and concrete which the architects describes as “a strange kind of church.” There’s a semi sheltered outdoor dining area at the same level. The lowest level of the house houses second living room and private areas like bedrooms and a bathroom with its ‘mirror’ design. There are two toilets, two sinks and two shower located in the same room. Via Dwell. Photo credit: Hertha Hurnaus
