This wonderful hillside cottage is located in New Zealand and was designed by architects of Tennent + Brown Architects. The cottage is owned by two French brothers and is built in a cluster of individual cabins to accommodate relaxation and rejuvenation. There are two separate bedroom/bathroom/study quarters, and a shared kitchen/main living space. If you ever wonder on how they built this cottage, the answer is they delivered the materials by helicopter and built them on site. Having a slope site and the majestic mountain and bay views, the architects built the cottage suspended over the ground. There are at least two advantages for this design, first is because this high building has unobstructed view over the bay and the second is the easiness for the foundation’s construction. This house seems is being mounted on the decks, decks which also become the best spot there to enjoy the incredible outdoors. The choosing for the colors of the building have been dictated by the landscape while the stutters which cover the glass enclosed living spaces are intended to give some shade from the hot afternoon sun. Well, at least for this location, privacy shouldn’t be an issue. Having a cottage to admire a view was not enough for the architects, the design should respect and preserve the nature as well, so this house also features photovoltaics cells, rainwater harvesting system and passive ventilation.
