For a normal house to be built on a 16-sq meters area (182-sq foot), it should has second or even third floor to provide enough spaces for anything but for this apartment's interior, that’s the only available space for the two owners. This apartment is located in Seattle and is owned by Steve Sauer, a Boeing interiors engineer which says: “What I really wanted was one place with exactly what I needed and wanted. Quality is more important than quantity for me, and extra space only a problem”. Not sure about the connection between his job and his apartment, but you could see that the space optimization may inspired by an airplane interior (which is also small), including creating an unusual bunk bed. For a normal home, a bunk bed usually contains only a bed with a few accessories but there, the bunk bed is also containing a space for reading with its chair and table. And just under this “bunk bed,” there’s an entertainment area with a sofa and TV. So in sort, the space arrangement is quite close about dividing the interior’s space into “two level interior.” There’s an “inner second level” inside this apartment where anything like the “bunk bed” or the bicycle is located. So the two owners of this apartment can have a living room, hallway and bathroom. Steve has stated that his apartment is cozy and not at all cramped, you either love it or hate it, it’s a matter of personal taste. But for me, it is quite challenging to have anything like this in this mere 16-sq meters area, and I think this idea can be really inspiring.
