Having a site with spectacular views and very natural surroundings would make you choose between building a home that rival the environment in beauty or blend the home in its surrounding and there, in Chicureo, Santiago, Chile the architect Felipe Assadi had decided to blend this house in its environment before he started to build the house. From the entrance, you are about entering an architecturally understated house. Built lower than the street level, this house invites you to feel its beauty after you have passed the gate. Instead of boasting its high profile identity that can be seen from the street, and it doesn’t disturb the view from the street at all. But just inside the gate of this “Guthrie House”, the understated image has gone, the architect also maintains a special character for the house. First the architect built an amazing pebbled rooftop patio since this is the first thing that makes up the image of this house and also the most admirable spot there to admire this incredible view. This rooftop patio and courtyard (near the entrance) look very natural although they are also defining the house’s identity. You can also see the dotted concrete wall that also tries to blend yet maintains its own presence. There’s also a dotted red self that can be seen beautifully from the entrance, obviously not blend but stands out there. Felipe Assadi. Photo credit: Guy Wenborne.
